Students in the Honors Joinery Class or the Bench Building class, will learn a variety of woodworking techniques, and in the process will build a bench of their own design. This is a rewarding and educational experience with which very few things in the world of Woodworking can compare. This experience traditionally mark the transition of an apprentice woodworker to that of a journeyman. (to the right is a slideshow of the basic process)
Most students make a workbench for themselves during the semester, but some students choose to complete a bench for the school. If you want explore this as an option, please contact us.
Below is the general bench idea students are given, many students choose to diverge from this and create either a German style bench, or incorporate a cabinet into their bench. You will not be given a set of plans for the bench. part of this course is learning to design your bench.
Students who have either taken the Intense Introductory Course (FIW 101), or a combination of FIW 100 & FIW 201 are able to attend this class. Intermediate level woodworkers are also encouraged but must get permission to take the class. |
