Last fall, the open house was amazing. The shop was packed with exhibits and displays of student work. We had a nice selection of food. The donations to FOTS were through the roof. The only thing that didn’t work too well, is that it was way to crowded.
For Spring semester I made the decision to try to utilize the “Great Hall,” in the main building of the school. The space is not only bigger than our shop area, but worked better for displays. I also thought this year that it might be fun to have a live band. “Hunker Down,” is a great local blue grass band, with many of its members being students at the school. The band and food was happening outside in a nice patio area with grass and even volley ball near bye. The atmosphere outside was great.
Leane again did a great job taking pictures of student projects - well done Leane. Thanks also to Randy Nelson, and everyone else who helped out with the food.

1)The space was great, but amazingly it was a little crowded. Next semester we will stay with a similar format but use the upstairs mezzanine for more displays.

2)In fall we won’t have to schedule around graduation, so we will probably start at 11am, with lunch served at 1pm.

3)The weather during the fall open house probably won’t allow us to have music, but count on something for the following spring.

4)I need people that can move around during the event and answer questions. We had quiet a few visitors this semester. I also need someone that can get action shots of the crowd during the show. We had that kind of working this semester, but just need more.

5)I need to figure out a way to fund it better. This is our opportunity to really try an get people to donate to our foundation. The foundation is what funds events like this and also allows us to keep the program running. This year sadly we ran the show at a loss.
